Quarterly investment update Autumn 2026

Welcome to our Autumn Update covering the period from 1 January 2026 to 31 March 2026.

While the previous 12 months delivered generally strong investment returns, the first quarter of 2026 started off weaker due to the new conflict in Iran leading to an unwelcome rise in global oil prices.

In this update, we discuss the geopolitical tension versus subsequent market performance, the oil shock of the 1970’s, artificial intelligence, US tariffs and the state of the New Zealand economy in the current global environment.

In the featured article titled “The case for a strategic allocation to New Zealand shares” we discuss timing verses strategy in turbulent periods and highlight how difficult timing decisions are for investors.

We look forward to updating you on market performance in our Winter update due out in July.
