Vet breaks glass ceiling, Young Farmer of the Year

Last weekend 28-year-old vet, mother, and dairy farmer, Emma Poole, won the 2023 FMG Young Farmer of the Year contest, winning more than $90,000 in prizes. She is the first woman to win in the 55-year history of the competition.

Talk about a high performer! Emma is an Amazon in my eyes for several reasons.

I have total respect for any veterinary graduate. The veterinary degree is the hardest degree I know of.

Running a 700-head dairy farm business with her partner would normally be a full-time job and doing it with a toddler is … awesome.

There we are.

I just wanted to celebrate Emma’s achievements and put it in writing. I don’t know much more about her except that it was not the first time Emma entered the Young Farmer of the Year competition. And that shows me that excellence doesn’t come easily. One of the judges said that Emma impressed with her resilience … and sheer determination.

And Emma noted “I’m not perfect, you know, I tried my hardest out there, but it was good for people to see that you can make mistakes and still come out on top – so it was a positive story at the end.”

Keep asking great questions ...
